Dave Caldwell and Doug Marrone sit in a smoky room in the dark plotting their next course into the depths of NFL Hell. Why? They want to lose. They love to lose. They wake up yearning to lose football games at any cost.
Or, perhaps there is another explanation.
By keeping an ear out from such tape digesters like NFL Media’s Chris Wesseling or Andy Benoit of the MMQB these words are used to describe Leonard Fournette: plodding, unspectacular, quicksand, battleship. Independent people well outside of the Jaguars organization have long believed the ex-LSU star has not been a special player in the NFL.
Marrone suggests the move was made purely from what the Jags have seen out of their other running backs. It might sound crazy, but his evaluation was backed up by no NFL team willing to trade even a bag of footballs for Fournette.
There was absolutely zero buzz about any other RB in Jacksonville’s training camp. So who is the Mystery Man in Duval? Is Devine Ozigbo a secret weapon waiting to be unleashed upon defenses? Has Ryquell Armstead been on the COVID list as a ploy to rope-a-dope head coaches asleep at the wheel?
Here’s one guess to stun Fantasy Football leagues across the country; It’s undrafted rookie James Robinson.
Fournette was kept on the roster even after attempted trades during the draft back in April. Caldwell and Marrone may have been fine continuing on with the No. 4 overall pick in 2017 after not finding a taker until Robinson walked into the building. Armstead and Ozigbo were on the roster last year and another undrafted rookie Nathan Cottrell was assigned to the practice squad. This is James Robinson’s show.
Hey, it’s just a theory.
