Shameless Steven Adams Appreciation Post for New Zealand

by Ryan Mercier

Hey New Zealand. First of all, great job with the coronavirus. As an avid listener of The Ringer’s Bill Simmons and Ryen Russillo its been brought to my attention that any negative comments toward Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams becomes big news over there.

My website is brand new and in a cheap attempt to get clicks from another country, here is a full blog post dedicated to the big man. Its best to be up front, right?

Adams has always been a very dependable player getting rebounds, a block, giving tremendous effort, and rarely missing a game. In 2018-19, Adams nearly averaged a double-double for the entire season with a career-best 9.5 rebounds per game and tied his best mark with 13.9 points per game. This year, he grabbed 11.6 rebounds per game in the playoffs which was his highest ever.

He’s really one of the defining players of basketball in Oklahoma City after Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. All three of those players have moved on but Steven Adams was once again in the playoffs with the Thunder this season.

The cast of characters change for OKC but the 6’11” center holds his spot even in an NBA that is moving away from his skillset. Adams is not a player anyone would want to mess with especially now that he looks like Aquaman or some kind of menacing samurai.

His many looks over the years are a charm in itself. First, it was his clean-cut shaven intro to the league as a rookie in the 2013-14 season. Then came the mustache which had him looking like Karl Urban in Out of the Blue (I really reached for a New Zealand reference there). Finally, he let his hair just grow and grow til on his head and face til he became some kind of mythical warrior that we all know and love today.

Here’s to you, Steven Adams. Welcome to my blog, New Zealand. I hope you enjoy my specialty, writing about American Football.
