Cowboys are the Most Fun Team in the NFL
For anyone who is not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys nor in a position compelled to root against them, hop on the ride! The Cowboys are fun. Now, fun only gets you so far, one win. That win was accomplished thanks to a whirligig onside kick which seemed to slow down all time and space.
Throw Week 1 out the window, that was merely a regular NFL game with a questionable decision at the end. In Week 2, the Cowboys were down 15 points with five minutes left and still won. The following week they were down 15 once again in the third quarter and came all the way back, only to lose to the Seahawks in the final minutes.
Finally, Week 4 came. The score to begin the fourth quarter was 41-14, Browns over Cowboys. FORTY-ONE TO FOURTEEN. A blowout? That’s not very fun. Don’t worry, the circus was just beginning. Dallas stormed back in just over 11 minutes to pull within three points. Just like that, it was 41-38. Flashy Odell Beckham Jr. last had a great moment ages ago as a rival of the Cowboys. So, of course he iced the game by running about 12 yards backward before scoring a TD on a 50-yard run.
Please, keep this going Cowboys. It is so much fun to watch.
Cleveland is 3-1
Don’t forget the team on the other side of the Cowboys’ circus this past week. The Browns have a weapon and it’s not Baker Mayfield, OBJ, or Jarvis Landry. It’s the run game.
Yes, in 2020 some teams still run the football. On Sunday, the Browns ran for 307 yards on the ground. People will pay more attention to QBs passing for 400 or 500 yards but giving up even 200 on the ground is far more demoralizing to a defense. Cleveland even lost one of the best running backs in the league in Nick Chubb and kept chugging along.
The Browns have run for totals of 307, 158, and 215 in their last three games, all wins.
Deshaun Watson and Matt Ryan: QBs of 0-4 Teams
Before the season, every person alive ranked Watson as a top-5 QB. There are those that will point to many things as excuses for Houston, including head coach Bill O’Brien who was recently fired. However, the truth hurts and here is a fact: Watson has led the Texans to an 0-3 start (2018) and at least an 0-4 start this season.
Matt Ryan once had an MVP season and was on the brink of a Super Bowl championship. Now, his Falcons have begun a season 0-4. Last year, Atlanta was 1-5 and in Week 7 the Falcons were down big in the fourth quarter against the Rams when Ryan got hurt. Essentially, that is a 1-6 start.
People like to put Watson in the top five as if he is in the same class as Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson. Matt Ryan is touted as an underappreciated star. Shout “QB WINZ ARE NOT A STAT” all you like, here is the truth: Watson and Ryan are good, not great.
Final Notes
- The real Jaguars have stood up
- Lions are still great at almost winning. Anyone will tell you they were 3-4-1 with Stafford last year. Why did anyone think that was a positive stat for Detroit?
- Teams I’ve been most wrong on through 4 weeks: Rams, Colts, Cardinals
