Bucs Make a Huge Statement
Tampa Bay scored 38 unanswered points after going down 10-0 in the early stages of Sunday’s main event. The Green Bay Packers came in as the top team in the NFC (or close) and ran into a defense out to announce itself as one of the best in the NFL.
Watching a team intercept a pass from Aaron Rodgers and taking it all the way for a score is like spotting Bigfoot. It was only Rodgers’ third pick-six of his entire career.
Tom Brady was not the big story of the game but he did reconnect with his old friend Gronk who lumbered down the field with five catches, 78 yards, and one score. The Bucs now sit alone atop the NFC South.
So Many Dreadful Teams
This season feels strange. OK, not because of the coronavirus, that part goes without saying. This season, and possibly last, began a new era where all 32 teams actually had an answer at quarterback. Either an established guy or someone to be hopeful for would be under center.
Yet, it doesn’t matter because it feels as if there are more hopeless teams than usual just six weeks into the season. Let’s put them into two categories.
- Oh God it Hurts to Look: Jets (0-6), Jaguars (1-5), Giants (1-5), Washington (1-5)
- In Denial: Texans (1-5), Falcons (1-5), Vikings (1-5), Chargers (1-4), Bengals (1-4-1)
That list doesn’t even include the Eagles (1-4-1) or Cowboys (2-4) who are miraculously contending for their division. It doesn’t include the Broncos (2-3) or Lions (2-3) who were more than ready to join the bottom-feeders but technically don’t belong by record. There is some ugly football out there in 2020.
Final Notes
- The Dolphins are alone in second place in the AFC East!
- NFC West will be a battle all season: Seahawks (5-0), Cardinals and Rams (4-2), 49ers (3-3)
- Pittsburgh is quietly looking to add another Lombardi to its trophy case
- The Jaguars are an uncompetitive mess. The first two weeks showed us an offense that could be fun all season. There is no fun in Duval County anymore.
