NFL Week 8 Quick-Hitters

Steelers Pass Hardest Test Yet

Beating their archrival, the Baltimore Ravens, was the last of three huge victories in a row for the Steelers. Pittsburgh started off the season 4-0 but all against weak opponents. Since then, it has been a progressively harder challenge for three weeks.

First, Mike Tomlin’s team easily handled the improved Cleveland Browns. Then, the Steelers vanquished the Titans in the battle of the final unbeatens in the AFC. On Sunday, they erased a 10-point deficit to come out on top in the latest chapter of pro football’s best rivalry of the 21st century.

Hello, Miami Dolphins!

Ladies and gentlemen, paying attention to the Dolphins is now required. South Florida’s finest have earned a record above .500 and are completely relevant. While fans were eagerly awaiting the debut of rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa, the game was won on defense and special teams.

Brian Flores is announcing himself as one of the best head coaches in the league, even if it was curious timing to move away from veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Sunday’s outing against the Rams was also one of the more bizarre games in recent memory. The Dolphins had 145 total yards on offense for an average of 3.0 yards per play. That is putrid. Meanwhile, the Rams had 471 yards and 31 first downs. Yet, Miami won easily, 28-17.

Should the Bills be looking over their shoulder in the AFC East?

Final Notes

  • No one is talking about the Colts who just won by 21 points and are tied for the lead in the AFC South
  • Sunday Night Football between the Cowboys and Eagles might be one of the worst games ever played
  • Top five teams in no particular order: Steelers, Chiefs, Seahawks, Bucs, Packers. Yes, that leaves out the Ravens, Titans, Saints, Cardinals, Colts
