Which Team is Coming out of the NFC?
New Orleans is missing its quarterback but still winning games, Seattle is possibly turning a corner on defense, and Green Bay can look like the best team in the league on the right day. Yes, those are the top three teams in the standings but it’s hard to make an argument for any other squad right now.
In the old playoff format, recent history showed that earning a bye was absolutely necessary to make it to the Super Bowl. Now, only one team will get that spot. These last five weeks are critical for the Saints, Seahawks, and Packers to get the No. 1 seed.
The Case for the “Other” NFC Teams
Everyone has seemed to poor dirt on Tom Brady already. That’s always gone well in the past, right? It’s been a while since a Wildcard team has made a Super Bowl run but the Buccaneers still have a nice defense and this offense could click at a moment’s notice. While it doesn’t look likely, do you really want to count Brady out? Are you sure?
Throw out the NFC East and that leaves the L.A. Rams and Arizona Cardinals. If the seeding held, the Rams would get to face the lowly NFC East winner and then face the Saints in a rematch of the Pass Interference No-Call Game. Keep in mind, New Orleans has made a habit of unfortunate playoff exits.
For the Cardinals, it all begins and ends with Kyler Murray. To make it all the way to a championship, Murray would have to go on a historic run. The good news for Arizona? He has the ability to do it.
Final Notes
- Kudos to Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. Having not been a fan of his (as the head man), he took on accountability for their ridiculous COVID situation instead of complaining.
- Lions should trade Matthew Stafford away to go all-in on a rebuild. It’s been 12 seasons, people. He should not be treated as some kind of untouchable, elite QB.
- Two downtrodden franchises, the Bills and Browns, are each 8-3 and in the playoff mix. What a delight.
