Cleveland Rocks in Nashville
Don’t be deceived by the final score of the 41-35 victory over the Titans. The Cleveland Browns were a rollicking freight train tearing its way through Nashville on Sunday. Tennessee’s bizarre luck this season showed up once again in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the massive deficit.
Baker Mayfield needed a franchise quarterback performance to silence not only critics of the Browns but his own critics as well. He did just that in one half. The Titans have a terrible defense but it was no certainty that Mayfield would deliver in such convincing fashion.
How far can the Browns go? Funny enough, the current seeding would put them right back in Tennessee for a rematch. It seems likely they will travel to the winner of the AFC South, whether it’s the Titans or Colts. However, as crazy as it sounds, a division win over the Steelers is still technically in play.
Pittsburgh No Longer Perfect
That’s right, the once 11-0 Steelers are at least in tepid danger of not only losing the No. 1 seed but losing the AFC North. It would take some craziness but the Browns and Steelers will meet on the last week of the season.
In this week’s addition of Monday Afternoon Football, the Washington Football Team (<— what a weird start to an accurate sentence, thanks 2020) somehow crawled back down 14-0 against the NFL’s only remaining undefeated squad and won. Pittsburgh experienced more problems with dropped passes just like last week against Baltimore.
It took more than a case of “The Dropsies” for a 4-7 Washington team to take down the 11-0 Steelers, especially one which went 4-for-17 on third down and had a quarterback with blood pouring down his leg. Add in a goal line stand and a huge fourth down stop in the final five minutes where Mike Tomlin could have elected to kick a field goal and that is a recipe for a 23-17 upset.
