“I Still Own You!”

Muhammad Ali once said, “It’s hard to be humble when you’re as great as I am.” One of the best athletes of all-time is rightly revered for his constant, boastful truths. “I am the greatest.” “I’m a bad man.” And of course, not to be forgotten, “I’m pretty.” Ali backed up his immortal talk over and over again. In 2021, it’s much harder to come across athletes this fun. Sometimes it’s difficult to even remember how sports are supposed to be fun.

Aaron Rodgers had a regretful off-season and many outlets ripped him after Week 1 (including this very website). Absolutely none of that matters anymore. Rodgers is following up his 2020 MVP award by throwing 12 TDs, just three interceptions, and has the Green Bay Packers off to a 5-1 start.

Then, the icing on the cake.

“I still own you!” Aaron Rodgers said to the poor Chicago Bears fans in Soldier Field. In fact, he said a little more than that:

Double sourced. If this isn’t enough proof, listen to this enhanced audio:

An absolute Grade A, Coolest Shit Ever moment from one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.

This did not feel like a pre-planned lackluster end zone celebration, a common occurrence in today’s NFL. It didn’t feel like the false bravado athletes give to convince themselves and others of how confident they are. Rodgers is a longtime star in the class of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or LeBron James stomping on the hearts of the Bears faithful in the heat of passion.

Just imagine this season LeBron hits a buzzer beater against the Wizards in Washington, deliriously runs at the crowd and shouts something like, “You still suck! All my career you’ve sucked! King Kong ain’t got shit on me!” It just wouldn’t happen.

Well, it happened in Chicago on Sunday.
