Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, and maybe Ashton Jeanty. Those are the stars of this years draft. After that? Yikes.
Cam Ward is being needlessly thrust up to No. 1 overall because he’s a quarterback and most of the prospects at offensive tackle have question marks. Mason Graham looks like a really good defensive tackle, but top of the draft good? Not so sure. Do not envy the New England Patriots or Jacksonville Jaguars, either may be forced to select a lesser player with a top-5 pick.
This or That: Quarterback
Jaxson Dart over Shedeur Sanders
When looking up Sanders, given what you hear about him, the thought was his ability to throw with sharp, pinpoint accuracy would jump off the screen. Except, it doesn’t really come off that way. There’s something unremarkable about even that aspect of his game. Sorry, Deion. Don’t come after me. Or do, I’ll feel ALIVE.
Dart isn’t incredible or anything, but his movement skills and feel for the game seem to make him a better NFL prospect.
This or That: Tight End
Tyler Warren over Colston Loveland
There’s a big difference between these two when watching them. When Loveland catches the ball, it’s almost as if he cannot wait to hit the ground. Falling down on catches, going out of bounds, or being taken down by the first defender he sees, Loveland is your guy. Warren is often still moving forward, running, or rejecting tacklers.
Warren is the better blocker, too. Easy choice.
Wide Reciever Without the Fever
Ever force a relationship to work? Squinting to see the positives in someone because there was just no one else around? That’s the wide receiver group this year.
After Hunter and Tetairoa McMillan, just go home. It’s not there.
Maybe, perhaps, possibly, Luther Burden and Jayden Higgins could be something. Or, it’s just time to go home.
Top of the Draft Guy to Love: LB/Edge Jalon Walker
Walker is a nice player off the edge and getting to the quarterback is paramount in football. That alone is enough to become one of the best players out of this class. HOLD ON, he can also play in space as a linebacker? Any team that selects him will be happy.
Bottom of the Draft Guy to Love: WR Dont’e Thornton
Here’s a guy who isn’t even on Daniel Jeremiah’s top 150 players. He’s smooth and he glides. There are questions about his ability to run routes outside of simple ones. Take a chance on this guy later on in the draft.
