Observations on 49ers-Rams

Purdy to Evans

What a connection. If this turns out to be a wild overreaction, so be it. Brock Purdy looks like he has waited his whole career for a receiver like Mike Evans. If memory serves, even Tom Brady took some time before developing a rapport with the former Buccaneer star. Purdy immediately looked to the big-bodied wideout on several third downs and Mike Evans might be one of the best players in fantasy football this season.

  • The 49ers offensive line was fantastic against one of the best defensive lines in the league.
  • Blake Corum looked much better than Kyren Williams in the Rams backfield. This doesn’t mean it will play out that way the rest of the season, but it was notable.
  • San Francisco looked crisp on offense and that is no small feat in a Week 1 game.
  • Travel will be the big topic for why this game was a 20-point beatdown but don’t forget the Rams were inches away on 4th down and could have cut the 49ers lead to 17-14. Matthew Stafford may have even crossed the goal line but there was no definitive camera angle. San Francisco, then, drove 99 yards for a TD.
  • Netflix Broadcast Talk:
-The “Mel-Bin” pronunciation for Melbourne, Australia was hilarious. It feels like the whitest person you know putting a lot of sauce on the word “Enchilada” for no reason in a Mexican restaurant desperate to sound like he was born south of the border.
-Luke Kuechly talks a lotttttt. He also said he felt like it was a big third down when the Rams were on defense down 17 points with 10 minutes left.
    -Nick Foles. Super awkward.
